Obama and Bloomberg: Reduce Usage of Salt

Michelle Obama and Mayor Michael Bloomberg are pushing through against using too much salt which is a campaign by Cargill. A video by Cargill called Salt 101 said, “Salt is a pretty amazing compound, so make sure you have plenty of salt in your kitchen at all times.”

Today, the campaign that Obama and Bloomberg made is to start reckoning salt. The rate of Obesity and High-blood pressure is getting high and still rising among adults and even children. Health experts in the government are now making actions for the deep cuts of using too much salt and with this, it will save around 150,000 lives a year.

Federal committee is now finishing up the recommendations on nutrient issues which also include salt. There is also a study commissioned by ConAgra showing that the country can save up to billions in terms of health care by telling the Americans to eat less rather than using less salt.

Food companies like Kellogg are acting with this campaign and started reducing their usage of salt gradually. Senior vice president of Campbell Soup George Dowdie said, “We have to earn the consumer’s trust every day, and if you disappoint the consumer, there is no guarantee they will come back.”
