Prostate Cancer; Killer of Men

A great classic Hollywood actor Dennis Hopper, who starred in the movies “Easy Rider” and “Blue Velvet,” died Saturday in his home in Venice, California. He was only 74.

The reason for his death is the prostate cancer which was diagnosed October 2009, according to his wife Victoria Hopper. He died surrounded by his children.

Approximately 27,000 men die every year from prostate cancer according to the American Cancer Society and unfortunately Dennis Hopper was one of them. Aside from lung cancer which is also topping in the list when it comes to deadly illnesses for men, prostate cancer is as merciless. ACS or American Cancer Society reported last year that they have diagnosed over 192,000 men with prostate cancer.

A study was published last year in The New England Journal of Medicine, it has been the talk of the town about the best way of treating prostate cancer. It doesn’t agree with the prostate screenings, and said it will not reduce the number of deaths but not of the experts agreed with this.
