Obesity may cause increased likelihood of dying in a car accident, new research suggests. Researchers at the University of Buffalo School of Medicine in Buffalo, NY found that moderately obese drivers face a 21 percent increased risk of death in a severe auto accident, while the morbidly obese face a 56 percent increased risk. The weight classifications were determined by body mass index, or BMI; moderately obese individuals have a BMI of 35 to 39, while morbidly obese individuals have a BMI of 40 or above. [...more]
