Walk with the Beat: 100 Steps a Minute
Posted on 08 March 2010 by Maria
If you prefer walking as your daily exercise, what’s the best for you? Thirty minutes of exercise a day, five times a week for a good health.
According to researchers at San Diego State University, walkers should aim for at least 100 steps a minute. Dr. Simon Marshall, School of Exercise and Nutritional Sciences professor said, “This threshold is absolute minimum”.

For walkers who push to increase their fitness needs to push even harder. “100 steps a minute improves cardiovascular health and lowers risk of cancer. But to improve fitness, it needs more intensity.”
Match up the beat of a song with 100-105 says Dr. Marshall. “Wait a Minute” by Ray-J at 100bpm is an ideal tempo to keep you close to moderate intensity. You can also try “Take A Chance On Me” by ABBA with 105bpm.
